Amrita Rao's rise to Stardom

Amrita Rao never fails to impress with the pitch of her performance in any given role. Currently seen in Sooraj Barjatya's praiseworthy family drama, Vivah, Rao has been paired with Shahid Kapoor for the third time. They worked together in Ishq Vishk (2003) and Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi (2005).

Suffice to say, Amrita Rao's understated performance in Vivah earned her many accolades. In the film, she plays Poonam, a well-educated, young Indian woman who embraces her traditional customs. The heartwarming tale is centred on her arranged marriage to Prem, who comes from a very affluent yet humble family, and his unconditional love for her.

When IndiaFM asked Amrita Rao how she felt about securing a film under the Rajshri Productions banner, she said: "It is a privilege. In fact, my mother always wanted my first film to be a Rajshri film. Today, I am playing the lead role in their film - it is a dream come true."

Reports have revealed that the ravishing actress had such a blast on set that she didn't want the shoot to end. In fact, on the last day she serenaded the director with one of his favourite songs.

"Vivah is a film about beautiful moments. There is so much intensity in the interaction between the two characters - only Barjatya could have made such a film," she said.

So when and how did Amrita Rao find an open door to Bollywood?

The 25-year-old actress landed a modelling job for Fairever Face Cream and, after several other adverts, was approached for Raj Kanwar's Ab Ke Baras (2002) . Unfortunately, her debut film did little to launch her career. Nor did she have much luck with her next film, The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002).

It was Ken Ghosh's lighthearted rom-com Ishq Vishk that gave Rao her first hit. After Masti, the actress landed a role in famed choreographer Farah Khan's directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. Cast in a completely different light from the sweet-natured conservative characters she played, Rao was a hit opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Zayed Khan and Sushmita Sen. She was also nominated for Filmfare's Best Supporting Actress Award for her role as Sanjana (aka Sanju).

Her other films to date include: Deewar, Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi, Shikhar and Pyare Mohan.

Amrita Rao has often been cast with Shahid - is his girlfriend Kareena a little insecure about them working together?

"Kareena has always been very appreciative of our films. I admire her. She belongs to the Kapoor family, yet she is so simple and humble. It is rare to find such a quality."

Amrita Rao fans can look forward to her forthcoming films: My Name is Anthony Gonsalves and Hey Baby.

Hi amrita....how can i say how many times i have seen vivah movie? but i swear whenever i sees vivah movie and in that your role, i just misses my love a lot what is in India pretty far away from me but whenever i see this movie..i always cry with hug her photo...her name is Arpita...thank u for create love between us by your this role..
