My Name is Anthony Gonsalves
The popular song from Manmohan Desai's Amitabh-Vinod-Rishi starrer 'Amar Akbar Anthony' is the title of Ramgopal Varma's erstwhile assistant E. Niwas' next project. Yes, Niwas' forthcoming project is titled My name is Anthony Gonsalves.
Niwas, who has worked with formidable names like Manoj Bajpai (Shool), Fardeen Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Aftab Shivdasani (Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega), Vivek Oberoi (Dum) and Bobby Deol, Ritesh Deshmukh (Bardaasht), has decided to work with new faces this time around. "That's because the character demanded a new boy," he tells me.
Another reason that prompted Niwas to opt for a newcomer is because a number of biggies, starring the biggest of names, have crashed at the box-office. "The script is the key to success, not the stars," he adds. But why an offbeat title? "Two reasons! One, the character's name in the film is Anthony Gonsalves and two, I was keen to have a catchy title," he says.
My name is Anthony Gonsalves is expected to roll in June/July this year and is expected to release on September 7 2007. "I hope to wrap up the entire shooting in four months," he adds. Music director Himesh Reshammiya has already recorded two songs for the film.
The film stars Amrita Rao and newcomer Nikhil Dwivedi. Amrita plays a catholic girl named Karen and is an Assistant Director in the film.
